Dr. Tolga Tören completed his Master's degree at Marmara University (Istanbul), Institute of Social Sciences, Faculty of Development Economics and Economic Growth (2006), and - as part of the Global Labour University (GLU) - at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg), Faculty of Humanities, Labour Policies and Globalization (LPG) (2010).

From September to October 2010, he was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the University of the Witwatersrand as part of his doctoral studies.

In 2012, he completed his PhD thesis entitled "South Africa: from apartheid to black economic emancipation: reformulating race and class based on the historicity of capital accumulation" at Marmara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Development Economics and Economic Growth.

As a member of the Global Labour University (GLU) and the Global Partnership Network (GPN), Dr. Tören has been teaching and researching at the Faculties of Labour Policies and Globalization (LPG) and Global Political Economy and Development (GPED) at the University of Kassel since 2017 on the topics of labour policies and globalization, development and underdevelopment, and research methods.

From March to May 2018, he was also a visiting professor at the Institute of Political Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Vienna.

Dr. Tören's research focuses on labour policy and globalization, with a particular focus on precarious working conditions, as well as on global political economy and development - especially the political economy of development, foreign aid policies, and the dynamics of development and underdevelopment.
