The Department focuses on Open Space Planning with a social science orientation. Parks, gardens, squares and promenades shape the cityscape and offer space for encounters and recreation. Open Space Planning combines different areas. The focus is on people and their needs as well as the social utility value of the various open spaces.
What impact does the design of open spaces have on their use and usability? What opportunities for user participation in Open Space Planning and open space design have proven successful? What new forms of participation need to be tested?
Planning perspectives for future open spaces are developed in projects at both Urban Design and object planning scales.
In seminars, the focus is on reflecting on the history of Open Space Planning up to the present day, in particular urban greenery, in order to get to know model concepts and lines of development, to reflect critically and to make them usable for one's own planning.
