Triple Helix and Regional Governance
A Comparative Analysis of German Metropolitan Regions over Time
This research project comparatively examines how governance structures in German metropolitan regions have developed over time and how they shape regional development. It focuses on the interaction between government, business and science within the Triple Helix framework. The project investigates how institutional structures, regional interdependencies and actor relationships interact, and whether existing governance arrangements correspond to the functional requirements of regional development.
Drawing on several German metropolitan regions, the research analyses both formal institutional changes and informal cooperation structures over time. Particular attention is paid to the role of economic actors and their involvement in regional governance processes. The project contributes to a better understanding of the capacity of metropolitan governance and the conditions under which cooperation between government, business and science can support regional development.
