3DWoodWind

The studio 3DWoodWind will explore the potential offered by robotic fabrication and computational design technologies for sustainable and unique timber architecture. We will focus on two interconnected topics: understanding robotic wood winding and designing multistorey structures with this novel material system.

Within the curriculum, we will explore how to create wound timber components starting from physical form exploration, and combining them to form units, which can then be assembled into architectural structures. Throughout the course, specific workshops such as hand-winding, structural concept development, visualization, and presentation will be held in order to support students' skills. The outcomes of the studio will be exhibited at the EDEK Pavilion in DigitalBau 2022 Köln, showcasing the extensive potential of wood-winding in architectural applications. Students are welcomed to join the production of the pavilion.
