Annual report 2013/2014

Annual_Report_2014.pdf

Dear readers, the 2013/2014 reporting period was very eventful, successful and moving for the Department of Information Systems and for me personally. With the anniversary celebration in summer 2013, I can now look back on 5 varied and constantly growing years for the Department of Information Systems. In addition, I have had the opportunity to work part-time at the Institute of Information Systems at the University of St. Gallen (IWI HSG) as Hubert Ă–sterle's successor and to get to know a new world with many new opportunities and challenges. The past year was again characterized by numerous new research projects, significant growth in third-party funding, employees and publications. Since the last reporting period, our team in Kassel has grown by three new research assistants. The strong team of 21 research assistants and 3 post-docs enabled us to tackle numerous new research projects again last year. Our new project kuLtig (systematic development and piloting of methods and models for culturally sensitive learning service engineering using the example of China) was launched in summer 2013. The aim of this project is to develop methods, models and tools for the culturally sensitive design of IT-supported learning services in order to enable German further education providers to export their services to China efficiently and successfully. The targeted use of IT and e-learning elements can reduce distances in the provision of services and thus lower the costs of continuing education. Our post-doc Dr. Ulrich Bretschneider and I were awarded the coveted Emerald Science Prize "Citation of Excellence" 2013. The prize was awarded to us and our co-authors by the Technical University of Munich for the article "Leveraging crowdsourcing: Activation- Supporting Components for IT-Based Ideas Competition", which was published in the Journal of Management Information Systems. Annual report 2012

annual_report2012_final_web.pdf

Dear readers, the 2011/2012 reporting period was once again extremely successful for the Department of Information Systems. The past year was characterized by numerous new research projects, significant growth in third-party funding, employees and publications. A total of four new research projects funded with over 1.2 million euros, three of which were funded by the BMBF and BMWi and one by industry, cover a variety of research areas very well and complement the existing activities in the areas of service engineering, IT innovation management, collaboration engineering and strategic IT management. The BMBF-funded joint project "TANDEM" (www.projekt-tandem.info) aims to promote the enhancement of the innovation potential of young and old employees through the formation of age-diversified communities. In so-called TANDEMs, older and younger employees of a company jointly generate innovation ideas, develop them further and transfer them into concrete development projects. The "TAAndem" project (www.taandem.de), which is also funded by the BMBF, focuses on the joint learning and development of care and technology skills in tandems. The BMWI-funded project Value4Cloud (www.value4cloud.de) aims to research and develop market-supporting value-added services for cloud computing. The first two BMBF-funded projects, Mobil50+ and Mobile HybirCare, were successfully completed in the reporting period. The Mobil 50+ project (www.projekt-mobil50.de) has developed "Bring Dich ein!", a user-friendly, free and regional internet platform. [...]

Dear readers, the 2010/2011 reporting period was another very successful one for the Department of Information Systems, characterized by the launch of numerous new projects, awards and significant growth in third-party funding, staff and publications. The seven new public research projects funded by the EU, federal government and industry with over 1.7 million euros cover a wide range of topics. The joint project "BlendedContENT" (Blended Continuing Education with New Technologies) is developing a productivity-oriented training and further education program in the sanitary, heating and air-conditioning sector (SHK) from a learning service engineering perspective, incorporating Web 2.0 technologies. The joint project "EDiMed" (Efficiency Evaluation of Service Configurations in Telemedicine) aims to improve care processes through telemedicine. The joint project "ProduSE" (Productivity increase in training and further education through service engineering) aims to develop new methods and models to increase productivity in the field of blended learning in further education. All projects are funded by the BMBF. The EU-funded project "IOIT" (Inspiring Open Innovation Team) uses open innovation approaches to develop solutions that sustainably strengthen the innovation and competitiveness of the local economy and higher education institutions. Annual Report 2009-10

annual_report_09-10_web.pdf

Dear readers, the Department of Information Systems can look back on a very successful and growing year in 2009. In research, together with our colleagues at the ITeG research center, we succeeded in obtaining funding of around 4.2 million euros for a major research project VENUS (Design of technical-social networking in situational ubiquitous systems) as part of the second funding phase of the Hessian State Offensive for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE) from 2010 to 2012. This lays an important and strong foundation for further joint activities in the direction of the Excellence Initiative and the DFG's Collaborative Research Center. However, we were also successful in acquiring new research projects in other areas. In addition to various industry-funded research projects, a joint project Know More (optimization potentials and innovation impulses for patient safety in medical technology) funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics was successfully launched. In its business economist research ranking of 2100 people in Germany, Austria and China, the Handelsblatt newspaper ranks me 40th among the strongest researchers of the last five years and 24th among "under 40-year-old" researchers. With a view to the context and [...]

Annual Report 2008-09

Jahresbericht_2008-09.pdf

Dear reader, 2008 was an eventful year for the Department of Information Systems. Prof. Winand was "relieved" of his duties after 15 years as head of the department and took his well-deserved retirement. From April to July, I succeeded him as a replacement professor and since August 1, 2008 as the new head of the Department of Information Systems. [...]
