Feed² - Feedforward and feedback to increase student success and satisfaction

Internal research at our university has shown that the graduation rates in the degree programs of the FB07 fall short of expectations. The German Center for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (Deutsches Zentrum für Hochschul- und Wissenschaftsforschung) found similar results throughout Germany for law, economics and social sciences. For this reason, the project "Feedforward and feedback to increase student success and satisfaction" (Feed2) was launched. The project proposes three key measures to increase student success and satisfaction, which, when applied together, should lead to an increase in the number of graduates. These are the following sub-projects:

Feedforward: Informedness and expectations before and at the start of studies
FormFeed: Providing formative feedback in the learning process as an approach to improving student outcomes

As part of the Feed2 project, the Chair of Information Systems and Systems Development is working on the sub-projectFormFeed. The learning tool Loom is used to provide students with continuous formative feedback. Loom stands for Learning Objective and Outcome Manager and is a cloud-based solution that provides regular feedback for students and lecturers. The feedback results from a computer-based performance assessment (CbA) and a peer review process (ITPF). The learning tool is used in four lectures at different chairs at the University of Kassel (see project participants). The use and effectiveness of Loom Uni will be evaluated internally through a series of experiments in order to finally measure the positive effects on academic success and student satisfaction.
