Artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education is being intensified at four universities in Hesse thanks to money from the federal government and the state of Hesse: Projects at Goethe University Frankfurt, Kassel University, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and Offenbach University of Applied Sciences have been selected for funding from the federal-state program "AI in Higher Education." They will receive a total of 6.6 million euros until 2025.

The University of Kassel was successful with its application for the individual project "Promoting subject-specific and interdisciplinary competencies through sociotechnical design of systems of hybrid intelligence in a flexible and individual manner". In this way, it wants to support learners with AI in building up and further developing important additional skills - such as empathy and digital media skills - in parallel with subject-specific content.

The research project is based at the Scientific Center for Information Technology Design (ITeG) and is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Matthias Söllner from the Department of Information Systems and Systems Development in the School of Business and Economics. "We are very excited about the funding and look forward to being able to support our students even more in the next four years in the development of important professional and interdisciplinary skills, through intelligent use of AI-based systems, as well as lecturers, fellow students," emphasizes Söllner.
