The German Research Foundation (DFG) will fund a new project at our department with a total amount of 274,110 € over a period of three years starting in October 2022. Entitled "The Role of Signals, Forgiveness, and Reputation for Cooperation (FORGIVE)", the project will investigate the role of forgiveness in solving cooperation problems. It is based on a set of new variants of the infinitely repeated prisoner's dilemma, in which players can cheat and build a durable reputation. Laboratory experiments will be used to investigate the willingness to forgive after cheating and the strategic use of forgiveness.
