Low-valent main group chemistry for activating small molecules

We work preparatively with air and moisture-sensitive substances and therefore require careful handling in an inert gas atmosphere. Synthesis on the Schlenkline and fine work on the glovebox give us access to sensitive molecules with unusual bonds. We then take a closer look at these both experimentally and using computational chemistry. We use modern analytical methods such as NMR, IR, UV/Vis and X-ray structure analysis for characterization. All working techniques as well as the basics of theoretical chemistry with a focus on an experimental question are taught in the Dankert group.

Our research interest lies in the activation of small molecules with the long-term goal of catalytic applications. Main group elements are in the foreground. We focus on the element aluminum and metal-metal bonds. A current list of publications can be found under the following link.

Interested in joining the group?
If so, please drop by (room 1237) or send us an email.
We offer the opportunity to carry out internships or final theses (B. Sc., M. Sc., state examinations...) at any time.

There is also the possibility of joining the group as a doctoral candidate (doctoral thesis) or postdoctoral researcher. However, this is currently only possible with suitable funding (e.g. via scholarships).
