Centre for International Rural Development

The Centre for International Rural Development forms the institutional framework for internationally oriented research at the University of Kassel in Witzenhausen. It serves the elaboration, coordination and implementation of strategies and programs in research and teaching and provides logistical support for the activities of the participating departments. It is an information and documentation center for rural areas in the tropics and subtropics and supervises the European mobility programs. The Tropical Center brings together disciplinarily different fields of expertise. Procedures and processes of sustainable resource use in rural areas of the tropics and subtropics are in the foreground of interest. The Tropenzentrum offers special support for interdisciplinary research projects.

In addition, there are cooperations with the German Institute of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture (DITSL), the Greenhouse for Tropical Crops and the Tropical Centers of the Universities of Göttingen, Hohenheim, Bonn and Berlin as well as the Association of Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Research (ATSAF).
