Environmental communication: Communicating agriculture and sustainability

The compulsory elective module "Environmental Communication: Communicating Agriculture and Sustainability" is intended to enable Bachelor's students to design, implement and evaluate a professional extracurricular/informal educational event on a sustainability-related topic in a target group-oriented manner. Students acquire knowledge of the farm as a place of learning, as a form of multifunctional agriculture and as an agricultural-pedagogical field of work. They deal with the educational concept of education for sustainable development and learn didactic principles and concrete approaches and methods to apply this knowledge in practice and to inspire people for nature, agriculture and biodiversity.

Topics of the module:

• Content and didactics of education for sustainable development
• Overview of the farm as a place of learning: relevance, practical concepts (excursions), dissemination, developments
• Learning various teaching methods, including the content and design of "guided tours" (focus on tropical crops)
• Conceptual approach and practical work in nature education as an experiential and sensory teaching and learning concept
• Development of an own concept for an extracurricular / informal educational event

Course components & time required: 180 hours, of which 66 contact hours including 2 excursions (one of which is a full-day excursion on a Saturday)

Assessment: Participation and term paper

Number of credits: 6
