Gender and Agriculture - A Critical Introduction

Content of the event

Gender & Agriculture - how is it connected?

The introductory lecture will focus on living & working conditions of women and queers in agriculture in German-speaking countries. Who owns what? Who does what work? And how are issues like division of labor, ownership and role expectations in agriculture related to gender?

Gender (in)justice and power asymmetries are exemplified by the topics of agricultural law and sexualized violence in agriculture. But lived empowerment through feminist & queer organizing in agriculture show alternatives.

Language: German with English translation via Zoom

ELAN stands for emancipatory agriculture network. It exists since 2019 as an open association of FLINTA* people (women, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender *) of different ages from all possible fields of agriculture and agricultural sciences.

People in ELAN disagree with the current situation of agriculture and advocate for a solidarity and queerfeminist agricultural turnaround.

ELAN organizes network meetings, skillsharings, demos, campaigns, lectures and workshops. In this way, the network creates spaces for empowerment, exchange, discussion and shared learning.
