As in large parts of the Arab world, Oman has an extreme desert climate. One exception is the mountainous region in the north of the country, which is significantly more humid and temperate. However, water is also becoming scarcer here - particularly due to the transformation of land use systems, to which tourism is also contributing, as a study by the University of Kassel has found.
