More than "enough for everyone": food sovereignty

Speaker: Steffen Kühne

There is hardly any other area where the contradictions of the economic system are as evident as in agriculture and food. Food becomes a commodity, the composition of which
most people have just as little understanding of as the social and ecological conditions of its production. At the same time, producers - farmers, agricultural workers and processors - are coming under increasing price pressure from global supply chains, and the vision of climate-neutral agriculture is a long way off. Under the contested term of food sovereignty, movements have been forming worldwide for a quarter of a century to counter these developments with concepts of sustainable restructuring and the comprehensive democratization of food systems. This evening will focus on what the debates are all about and why it is definitely worth taking a closer look at this approach.
