Research project on the memory of German settlers in Angola at "International Conference - Legacies of Portuguese Colonialism in Africa: Institutions, Infrastructures and Development" December 18-19, 2025.

The conference "Legacies of Portuguese Colonialism in Africa: Institutions, Infrastructures and Development" from December 18-19, 2025 in Lisbon, deals with the traces of Portuguese colonialism in Africa.

In her presentation "Transimperial Legacies in Angola: German Agricultural Settlers under Portuguese Colonial Rule", Katharina Jung will present her approaches and research questions for the development of a research project as part of the conference.

The starting point for the development of the project idea were interviews with contemporary witnesses of former German settlers from Angola, which were recorded in Witzenhausen in spring 2025.
