Event Announcement: Opening of the exhibition "PENETRAÇÃO PACÍFICA – Germans in Angola" on September 18, 2026

On September 18, 2026, the exhibition “PENETRAÇÃO PACÍFICA – Germans in Angola” will open at the Zitadelle Berlin Spanau and will be on view from September 19, 2026, through January 3, 2027, at the Center for Contemporary Art (ZAK). The exhibition was developed as part of a research and art project by Angolan artists Mussunda N’Zombo and Bruno Fonseca, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Angola and in cooperation with the Department of Ecological Agricultural Sciences at the University of Kassel in Witzenhausen, the Angola – Deutsche e. V., and the Amadeu Antonio Foundation.

The exhibition explores the history of German families’ emigration to Angola—beginning in the colonial era and continuing into the former Portuguese colony—as well as the course of this history following Angola’s independence in 1975 through to the present.
