Contemporary Global Exploitation Chains in Agriculture – A Case Study from Haryana (India)
This guest lecture explores how global value systems (GVSs) have reshaped agriculture under neoliberal capitalism whereby production has shifted to the Global South, while control remains with Northern-based transnational corporations. These companies exploit differences in labor costs, environmental rules, and regulations—what we call “labour-nature-regulation arbitrage”—to maximize profits. Specifically, we will learn how these mechanisms and processes play out on the ground in Haryana, Northern India. Afterwards there will be a collective discussion and Q&A.
You are warmly invited to join us for this guest lecture and please don't hesitate to reach out in case of any questions, you can contact: m.pletsch-betancourt[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.
Best wishes,
