The experimental site  for irrigation and solar technology is located on the eastern outskirts of Witzenhausen in the extreme northeast of Hesse. The current position is approximately 51° 21' north latitude and 09° 52' east longitude, the height above sea level is about 137 m. The exposure of the average ground surface is 336 ° (NNW,), the average inclination 2.25 °.  The experimental site  for irrigation and solar technology can be found on the topographic map 1:25,000, leaflet 4625 Witzenhausen  nearby the Werra river  200 m upstream of the confluence of Gelster. Approximately 200m north-west flows the Werra at a steep undercut slope. Along the south-east  site an incomplete sandstone hill  drops steeply, then gently merges into the lower terrace. To the east, the valley expands into the Wendershäuser Aue, westwards into the Bischhäuser Aue.
