Most calves from organic farms that are not used for replacement stock end up in conventional fattening. The planned use of antibiotics on fattening farms, feeding based on milk replacers and keeping animals on fully slatted floors are not in line with organic farming principles. Although the economic viability of fattening dairy calves is often a challenge, innovative organic producers have developed alternative fattening systems for calves, bulls and oxen from dairy farming, which are presented in this information sheet.
