The role of the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem nexus approach in national policies in Southern Europe/the MENA region

Background: The Water-Energy-Food Nexus has become an important concept in international policy debates in recent years. The concept aims to make synergies and trade-offs between the use and production of water, energy, food and ecosystems (WEFe) visible.

Aim: This thesis wonders how the WEFE-concept is integrated into different national policies of the water, energy, and agricultural sector. Do policies (explicitly and implicitly) consider synergies and trade-offs between the use and production of these resources, and how do policies aim to deal with them? What are solution approaches for nexus problems in the respective areas/countries? Selected countries could include Southern Europe and the MENA region.
