The annual excursion in the module wood construction in-depth could also be carried out this year despite difficult boundary conditions. Due to the current situation, the excursion, which would otherwise have lasted several days, was reduced to two day trips in the greater Kassel area. The first day took the 12 students to Lower Saxony and NRW. It began with a visit to a student dormitory in Göttingen, which was built as a modular timber construction. On the way to the next destination, the climate tower in Solling, an Edeka near Göttingen could be visited. The visit of the climate tower could be accompanied by an engineer of the test engineering office.
After the climate tower followed the visit of a Ford showroom in Halle (Westphalia) and a lecture hall building of the catholic university in Paderborn, which were accompanied in each case by the architect.
On the second day, outstanding timber engineering buildings in the Rhine-Main area and a roof structure of a church were visited. First, the new Goethe Tower in Frankfurt and the construction site of a wooden parking garage in Rüsselsheim were visited. The trip then led back to Frankfurt, where a sports hall and the modularly built Adorno Gymnasium were visited first. Before the return trip to the north, another sports hall was visited. The 2020 excursion concluded with a visit to the roof structure of the Elisabeth Church in Marburg.
Following the excursion, the students are now tasked with preparing an analysis of the construction and supporting structure of a selected object.
