CELA coordinates the University of Kassel’s Latin America-related activities and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching. Its goal is to analyze social, political, and cultural developments in Latin America from various perspectives and to intensify international exchange. Through collaborations with partner institutions in Latin America and Europe, CELA creates a dynamic network for scholarly dialogue, joint projects, and academic mobility.

DAAD-ISAP CUBA
As part of the DAAD-ISAP-Cuba exchange program, we warmly welcome Prof. Dr. Geydis Fundora, Director of the transnational organization FLACSO-Cuba, during the summer semester of 2026. FLACSO-Cuba is dedicated to research, teaching, and promotion of the social sciences in Latin America and was founded on April 17, 1957, in Rio de Janeiro on the initiative of UNESCO on the occasion of the Latin American Conference on the Social Sciences.
Prof. Fundora’s research focuses on development approaches from a justice perspective. Her work emphasizes the social and solidarity economy, gender mainstreaming, social inequalities, intersectionality, and gender equality policies.
During her two-month stay in Kassel, she will offer the block seminar “Social Policy as a Space of Dispute between Domination and Emancipation: Experiences in Latin America and Europe.” The seminar will take place on Fridays from May 29 to July 17, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day and will be conducted in English.
The course is offered as part of the following degree programs: MA Political Science: Critique – Domination – Transformation (Cross-Area Module), MA Sustainable Management (Module: Politics, Economics, and Sustainability in Latin America), and MA GPED – MSOC (Master Special Option Course).
