CELA coordinates the University of Kassel’s Latin America-related activities and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching. Its goal is to analyze social, political, and cultural developments in Latin America from various perspectives and to intensify international exchange. Through collaborations with partner institutions in Latin America and Europe, CELA creates a dynamic network for scholarly dialogue, joint projects, and academic mobility.

Call for Applications for Two Research Fellowships at the Costa Rica and Ecuador Offices:
The Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) and the University of Bielefeld are accepting applications for two fellowships—lasting two to three months—intended for qualified researchers to work in residence at one of CALAS’s centers in Central America and the Caribbean (San José, Costa Rica) or the Andes center, located at FLACSO, Ecuador.
The Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies in the Social Sciences and Humanities (CALAS), the University of Havana (Cuba), and the National University of San Martín (Argentina) are offering a fellowship to hold the CALAS Cuba Chair, which is based, on this occasion, at the National University of San Martín (Argentina). The Chair is funded by CALAS and involves a three-month stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In accordance with the CALAS research program, applicants are expected to contribute to the development of new methodological and analytical approaches to further the debates on past, present, and future crises in Latin America and the world. From a transdisciplinary perspective, the Chair invites specialists on Latin America and the Caribbean to explore the intersections of these crises, the accompanying processes of social change, and the roles played by the various social actors involved, as well as to contribute to understanding these changes and proposing solutions to the crises in the region and the world.
The Knowledge Lab “Accelerations and Transformations in the World of Work in Latin America and the Caribbean from a Global Perspective,” of the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS), invites researchers to participate in the International Conference from March 15 to 17, 2027, at the University of Costa Rica.
