CELA coordinates the University of Kassel’s Latin America-related activities and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in research and teaching. Its goal is to analyze social, political, and cultural developments in Latin America from various perspectives and to intensify international exchange. Through collaborations with partner institutions in Latin America and Europe, CELA creates a dynamic network for scholarly dialogue, joint projects, and academic mobility.

Summary
In the face of the current polycrisis of the capitalist system, this book addresses the fundamental tension between market-driven technological transitions and radical socio-environmental transformations. Through a multiscale and transdisciplinary perspective, the authors analyze how hegemonic proposals for “green extractivism” and “decarbonization” often perpetuate structural inequalities, colonial logics, and temporal forms of violence in local territories. The book highlights Indigenous feminist perspectives and struggles, as well as community-led processes in Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina that challenge existing power relations. By examining political and aesthetic practices and imaginaries of the future, this volume proposes alternatives grounded in the collective and in the defense of life, seeking to move toward deeper and more equitable horizons of social and environmental justice.
