Image: LEWThe energy transition is fundamentally changing the European electricity system. As the share of wind and solar energy increases, so does the need for flexible and reliable energy sources. Hydropower can play an important role here, as it generates climate-friendly electricity, can store energy, and can respond quickly to fluctuations. The FLOW collaborative project is investigating how hydropower can be optimally integrated into a renewable energy system in the future. To this end, the project is developing new forecasting, planning, and control approaches for the efficient and safe operation of hydropower plants.
