Project B7
Chiral discrimination and structure determination by laser-induced electron recollision and diffraction
Project Lead: Jochen Mikosch and Arne Senftleben (University of Kassel)
In this project, we investigate chiral molecules in strong laser pulses where electrons released by tunnel-ionization undergo field-driven dynamics and can collide with their parent molecules during the same laser pulse. Using momentum-resolved coincidence detection of electrons and ions, we plan to shed light on a previously observed but unexplained strong chiral effect in recollision-induced double ionization. We will also use the elastic scattering between the electrons driven by an elliptical field and the molecules to probe the chiral dynamics of photolysis and to determine the structure of a chiral molecule by analyzing the diffraction patterns.
