Gain insight into the Swedish debate on excellence via the article in Tidningen Curie! Contribution from the German example by Guido Bünstorf

The Swedish government has announced several new excellence initiatives; on this occasion, the journal Curie asks: What lessons can be learnt from previous investments in excellence? Curie interviewed Anders Broström, Gothenburg University, Guido Bünstorf, University of Kassel, and Jenny Larsson, Stockholm University and Centre for the Human Past (CHP).

One important reason for the success of the German Excellence Initiative is the high standard of the application review, says Bünstorf. 'It is also important that the rules are clear from the outset and that everyone is prepared to accept the consequences. (...) There can be and have been inequalities in the country, and then you need to allow for them'.
