C1 - Dynamic Simulation of Systems and Cultural Context of Energy Systems
The first SolNet PhD course on
"Dynamic Simulation of Systems and Cultural Context of Energy Systems"
was held on 22 - 31 January 2007
in Högskolan Dalarna, Borlänge, Sweden
The aim of the simulation project was to give the students the opportunity to make a clearly defined simulation project with supervision, where the emphasis is on structuring and planning the work. The idea is that the project is something that is necessary for your PhD project. Although the detailed teaching is for the tool TRNSYS, the simulation project could be using another simulation tool.
Course description
The course consisted of several elements:
Main thematic of course (dynamic simulation), including presentation of PhD projects and technical tour (2.25 ECTS credits).
Cultural context of energy systems including preparation work in advance (1.5 ECTS credits).
Simulation project (2.25 ECTS credits) carried out after the intensive period in Borlänge.
The aim of the simulation project is to give the students the opportunity to make a clearly defined simulation project with supervision, where the emphasis is on structuring and planning the work. The idea is that the project is something that is necessary for your PhD project. Although the detailed teaching is for the tool TRNSYS, the simulation project could be using another simulation tool.
At the end of the course, the students should:
Understand and be able to apply basic dynamic simulation techniques.
Understand the differences between simulation tools and their advantages and disadvantages and to be able to choose a suitable tool for a given problem.
Be able to use a simulation tool to simulate different types of systems and buildings.
Be able to plan and perform a simulation study.
Understand the importance of cultural context for the meaning and use of energy technologies and be able to apply some social scientific tools on an empirical example.
