Students of the internship "Machine and Plant Casting" on excursion at "Fondium B.V. & Co KG" in Mettmann

In this way, the approx. 15 internship participants were able to link what they had learned in lectures and internships with industrial application. First, Mr. Anke and Mr. Dietrich introduced the excursion participants to the new company structure of the former Georg Fischer foundries in Mettmann and Singen, as well as the cast components produced on site. This was followed by a tour of the plant. The students were able to get to know the entire process sequence, starting with mold and core production, through the melting shop, to the casting lines and machining. The treatment of the iron with magnesium in the converter probably left a particular impression on the majority of the participants. Furthermore, the fact that both Mr. Anke and Mr. Dietrich come from the core shop gave the students the opportunity for an intensive exchange about future topics such as the use of inorganically bonded cores in iron casting, as well as the increasingly economical possibilities of printing them. After refreshments in the company's own canteen, the group made its way home to Kassel, where the day was reviewed over a cold drink or two in the Rondell.
