Admission requirements for this master's degree program

  • Passed bachelor's examination in physics
  • or equivalent (foreign) degree in the same or related field from another university or a university of applied sciences with a standard period of study of at least six semesters
    • In the case of technically equivalent degrees, we expect, that you
      • have acquired solid basic knowledge in experimental physics and theoretical physics in the fields of mechanics, electrodynamics and optics, thermodynamics and statistics, atomic and molecular physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear and elementary particle physics as well as quantum mechanics and mathematics;
      • have applied their knowledge exemplarily to physical tasks and partially deepened and thus acquired a basic problem-solving skills;
      • understood fundamental principles of physics as well as their mathematical formulation and have acquired methods that are suitable for modeling and simulation of relevant physical processes;
      • physical and partly also overarching problems that require goal-oriented and logically sound approach, on the basis of scientific knowledge to independently classify and analyze through the use of scientific and mathematical methods, respectively. solve;
      • use their knowledge in different areas and act responsibly in their professional activities. In doing so, they can also recognize new developments in their field and include their methodology - if necessary after appropriate qualification - in their work;
      • know the communication procedures common in the scientific enterprise and are familiar with the English technical language are;

    • If the applicant lacks prerequisites for admission to the master's program, the examination board may grant admission on condition that by the time the master's thesis is submitted, the missing knowledge is demonstrated by successfully completing certain modules to the extent of up to 30 credits.

  1. 1.Application

    Documents

    • I check out the homepage of the study programme page about the required documents.
    • I check out the country notes on the uni-assist website: Country notes.
    • I read the uni-assist notes on sworn translations: Attestations and translations.
    •  I will have my respective documents translated into German or English.
    •  I obtain officially certified copies of certificates and translations.

    • I make digital copies of the original documents and certificates.

  2. 2.Ap­plic­a­tion

    • The application will first be formally examined: Have all documents been submitted? Are the formal requirements met?
    • Upon completion of the formal examination, the application is forwarded to the examination board of your chosen degree programme.

    • In the next step, the examination board checks whether the substantive requirements for admission are also met. The examination board decides on the equivalence of the subject matter, the acknowledgement of previous performance, it decides on admission and rejection and, if necessary, imposes conditions regarding content.

    • The examination board reports the result back to the Master's Office digitally.

    • Should it be discovered in the course of the procedure that documents are missing, the applicants will be informed of this by email. The email will state the deadline for submission.

    • Depending on the Master's programme, it may take up to six weeks before you receive the result. Please refrain from making any enquiries during this period.

    • If necessary, I take a look at the how-to webinars on the application procedure via uni-assist.

    If you are a prospective student (including Germans and EU citizens) with a first professional qualification from abroad, you must always apply via uni-assist. uni-assist is the German service point for international student applications and processes international student applications.

    It is not sufficient to upload your documents to the uni-assist portal. You must also transfer the application fee.

  4. 4.Application

    Pro­ced­ure

    • I wait for the results of the uni-assist test and, if necessary, I will submit further documents.

    uni-assist checks whether you meet the formal requirements for admission to study at the University of Kassel. You will receive the result after about 4-6 weeks by e-mail and by post. If the formal requirements are met, your data will be forwarded to the University of Kassel.

    If you do not meet the formal requirements for admission, your documents will not be forwarded to the University of Kassel.
