For participants in college sports
Memberships related to university sports (Basic Membership, Water Sports Monthly Pass, Fit and Healthy Pass) are billed monthly and can be canceled at any time with at least 14 days’ notice prior to the end of the month. Memberships remain active until you actively cancel them. Withdrawal from the university does not automatically terminate your University Sports membership.
To participate in classes, you need a University Sports membership (Basic Membership, Fit and Healthy Card, UNIfit, or Water Sports Card). You can join a class during the course period as long as there are still spots available.
You can sign up through our website (https://www.uni-kassel.de/einrichtung/hochschulsport/kursprogramm/mitglied-werden), where you’ll find the different membership options. Select the membership you want and click on it. Clicking “Become a Member” will take you to the registration form. You can then sign up for courses.
You can participate once for free.
Since the university sports program is primarily intended for students and staff at the University of Kassel, members of the Friends of the University Association and guests will not be able to register for the courses until a later date.
Course fees vary by department and are set by the University Athletics Department.
The course fee must be paid only once per course period. For courses that require additional materials, the course fee is determined based on the course subject areas.
Students and employees of the University of Kassel are covered by accident insurance through the Hessen Accident Insurance Fund. Civil servants are exempt from this; in the event of an accident, they are covered by the State of Hessen’s workers’ compensation program.
Members of the association “Freunde des Kasseler Hochschulsports e. V.” are covered by the sports insurance provided by the Landessportbund Hessen. Guests participate at their own risk and are responsible for their own insurance coverage.
Since the Hessen Accident Insurance Fund does not cover property damage, we recommend that all participants also take out private liability insurance to ensure they are adequately covered in the event of damage.
Cancellation is possible at the end of each month after the minimum term specified in the table below. Notice of cancellation must be received by University Sports in writing—preferably by email at kuendigung-hochschulsport[at]uni-kassel[dot]de —two weeks before the end of the month. If you are submitting a written notice of termination (on paper), please be sure to include a current email address on the notice. We will confirm every notice of termination via email within 10 days! If you do not receive a confirmation, please contact us immediatelyat
Please note that neither withdrawal from the university nor the end of your employment contract with the university results in automatic cancellation of your membership.
For University Sports Instructors
If you can imagine teaching a course yourself, please send an email to ahs@uni-kassel.de with your qualifications, certificates, resume, a letter of motivation, and the course you'd like to teach.
Generally during the semesters and during semester breaks. Usually on weekdays from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Weekend classes are also available.
All course instructors must fill out a registration form; after that, the course schedules will be determined, specifying who can teach which course, when, and where.
Course assignments are reassigned for each time period based on the responses received. Course times are not automatically carried over.
We'll send you a teaching assignment form; please fill it out and send it back to us. You will then receive a timesheet from the Human Resources department by mail. You will receive one timesheet per time period. If you wish to be paid for your hours multiple times during a given time period, you must make copies of the timesheet yourself. Please submit the completed timesheet to University Athletics, either digitally or by mail. Payment is generally made on the last business day of the corresponding month. If you submit the timesheet at the beginning of the month, you’ll definitely receive the payment by the end of the calendar month.
Since exercise instructors are classified as adjunct instructors, online billing is not possible without the approval of the Human Resources Department. Make a copy of the timesheet you receive and enter the hours worked. Send the timesheet to University Athletics.
Depending on the course, we'll assign you a tier that determines your compensation based on your licenses or prior experience.
We will determine your starting pay based on your qualifications. You can increase your pay by completing continuing education courses or obtaining certifications and then submitting proof of completion to the university athletics department.
If possible, arrange for a substitute yourself (ideally, a fitness instructor who is already working in the university athletics program). If a substitute cannot be found, the class must be canceled for that session.
Yes, you are covered by the university's sports insurance.
The contact person varies depending on the department. If you have general questions, please contact the University Sports Office.
