Request for withdrawal from the examination and a make-up date

The date for retaking exams that were not passed is: Wednesday, April 7, 2027, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You should take the exam on the next available date set by the Language Center. For UNIcert® level-completion exams, no more than one semester may elapse between the course and the level-completion exam.

You may submit a request for a reschedule of the exam for a valid reason. Valid reasons include:

  • Illness, accident, serious illness, or death of a close family member, etc.

Family celebrations, conflicts with other work commitments, internships started on short notice, or being overwhelmed, etc., are not valid reasons for withdrawing from a registered exam.

Deadline: A request must be submitted immediately as soon as the reason for the impediment becomes known. Requests submitted after this deadline will not be accepted.

Note:

1. In principle, only students at the University of Kassel are eligible to retake an exam:

  • Students at the University of Kassel who can have the credits they have earned counted toward their degree program at the University of Kassel,
  • Students at the University of Kassel who are required to demonstrate proficiency in the relevant target language for graduation or as a condition specified in their admission letter,
  • international exchange students at the University of Kassel who can have the credits recognized via the Learning Agreement.

2. An exception applies only to UNIcert® level-based exams (= UNIcert® I, Part 4, German; UNIcert® II, English; UNIcert® II, Part 3; UNIcert® III). In these cases, all groups of individuals may submit requests for retake dates. However, for anyone not covered by section 1, an exam fee of €30 (or €79 for external candidates) is required.

Where do I submit the request? You can find the application form under “Services and Documents.” If the Language Center approves your application, you will receive a registration code for the exam.

Good to know:

Even if you do not take the exam, you can apply for a certificate of attendance (without a grade or ECTS credits) if you have sufficient course attendance (at least 60%): sz[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.

Can I advance to the next course level even if I haven’t taken the exam? In exceptional cases, the examination committee may decide to grant admission based on the overall picture of your performance. You can find the coordinator responsible for your course—who is your first point of contact—on our website under “About Us.”
