Study preparation (DSH)

The Language Center offers German language courses for targeted preparation. These courses comprise 20 lessons per week and last 10-13 weeks. The courses lead from language level B1 to B2 and from B2 to C1.

Supplementary exam training

The three-week DSH exam training course is an intensive preparation course for the exam. The specific types of tasks in the DSH exam are practiced here. The training follows on from the C1 course in terms of level and time, but is not a mandatory prerequisite for taking the actual exam. It is also open to external exam candidates who only wish to take advantage of this coaching.

Certain administrative and academic steps are required for participation in the DSH exam and the preparatory courses:

• Conditional admission: you absolutely need a so-called conditional admission letter from the University of Kassel. This official letter from the Registrar's Office confirms that you may begin your studies as soon as you have provided proof of sufficient German language skills (e.g. through the DSH exam). As this can take several weeks to be issued, early planning is strongly recommended.
• Compulsory attendance: All teaching and training courses require your regular attendance on site in Kassel.
• Costs: Fees are charged for both the DSH exam and the individual preparation courses. Detailed information on costs and payment modalities are listed directly with the respective courses.

• For the exam training and the DSH exam, you must provide proof of C1 level.
• To take part in the C1 preparation course, you must provide proof of B2 level and at least 800 hours of German lessons.
• To take part in the preparatory course for language level B2, you must have a B1 level and at least 600 hours of German lessons.
