Request for withdrawal from the examination and a make-up date

The deadline for rewriting failed exams is: Wednesday, 16.09.2026 from 9:00-14:00. Participation in the exam should take place on the next possible date set by the Language Center. In the context of UNIcert® level final examinations, no more than one semester may lie between the course and level final examinations.

You can apply to take the exam at a later date for a valid reason. Valid reasons are:

• Illness, accident, serious illness or death of a close family member, etc.

Family celebrations, overlaps with other work activities, internships taken up at short notice or excessive demands etc. are not valid reasons for withdrawing from a registered examination.

DeadlineAn application must be submitted immediately as soon as the reason for the impediment is known. Applications submitted late in this sense will not be accepted.

Note:

1. in principle, only students of the University of Kassel have the opportunity to retake or repeat an examination:

• Students of the University of Kassel who can have the credits earned credited to their degree program at the University of Kassel,
• students of the University of Kassel for whom proof of the relevant target language is required for the degree or as a condition of admission,
• International exchange students at the University of Kassel who can have the credits recognized via the Learning Agreement.

2. there is an exception only for UNIcert® level final examinations (= UNIcert® I, 4th part, German UNIcert® II, English UNIcert® II, 3rd part, UNIcert® III). Here, all groups of people can submit applications for retake dates. However, an examination fee of €30 (or €79 for external candidates) is payable for all persons who do not fall under 1.

Where do I submit the application? You can find the application form under Service and Documents. If the Language Center approves your application, you will receive a registration code for the exam.

Good to know:

Even if you do not take the exam, you can apply for a certificate of attendance (without a grade and without ECTS) if you have sufficient attendance in the course (at least 60%): sz[at]uni-kassel[dot]de.
