The universities of Kassel, Frankfurt and Gießen are jointly participating in the trial of the practical semester. As part of the trial, the three universities are cooperating closely at various levels.
In the course of this, the training courses for learning guides will also be opened up to interested parties from all locations.
Anyone interested in Kassel should send an email to schulung-praxissemester@uni-frankfurt.de to receive information about the Frankfurt training program and to register.
The first implementation phase of the practical semester trial will take place at the University of Giessen in February/March 2016. The mentor training courses are expected to be offered in two phases. As things stand at present, the second series of workshops in the first implementation phase may be opened up to external interested parties. You will be informed here as soon as registrations are possible.

P- Practical semester
I am not supervising a student on a practical semester, can I still take part?
Yes, participation in the interdisciplinary training program is recommended for all learning guides at schools and universities who supervise students as part of an internship (internship semester, SPS, ...) and is by no means exclusively aimed at learning guides in the internship semester.
I supervise internship semester students, is the training program mandatory for me?
No, the interdisciplinary training programme is a voluntary training course for all learning guides at schools and universities.
Can I get more information about the organizational aspects of the practical semester in the training course?
The interdisciplinary training programme aims to provide further training for all learning guides. References are made to the practical semester. An information event on the internship semester is currently being worked on.
W- Who, How, What, Why
Why is there such an advanced training program?
According to the Hessian Teacher Training Act (HLbG) of 28 September 2011, student teachers will be obliged to complete an internship semester in the future. From the 2014/15 winter semester, the practical semester will be tested for the first time in Kassel for the L1 and L2 teacher training courses. As part of the testing of the practical semester, the Hessian Teacher Training Act §19 [1] stipulates that "supervisors receive further training offers from universities and cooperating study seminars [to guide and advise students]".
Who can take part?
The target group for the continuing education program is all learning guides at schools and universities.
Who designs the continuing education program?
The interdisciplinary continuing education program is designed by an interdisciplinary working group of experts from within and outside the university. The working group includes representatives from schools, the Core Studies Department, the Institute of Educational Sciences, teaching staff, subject didactics, the Basic Personal Competencies project, students, study seminars and the Department of Practical School Studies
How does such a training module work?
The training courses are four-hour, half-day events. They always start at 14:00. The training modules are made up of different combinations of (short) presentations and work phases.
I can't be there on time, can I still take part?
If you are more than an hour late, we advise against taking part, as the courses are usually structured in such a way that the work phases are based on an input at the beginning. However, if you would like to take part in parts of a module, you are welcome to do so.
Why "work in progress"?
The interdisciplinary training program is constantly evolving. Despite the publication of the program, there may be changes to dates or content. Modules may be added and others may be dropped. Changes are always communicated on the homepage.
