Interdisciplinary panel discussion at the Goethe-Institut in Rome (working languages: Italian and French, with simultaneous translation)

What is the state of multilingualism in Europe and what challenges does this pose? How can we deal with this, bearing in mind the history of European languages? These questions will be discussed by two renowned experts on linguistics and language policy in Europe, Christian Lequesne and Jürgen Trabant, at a joint event organized by the German Historical Institute and the Goethe-Institut in Rome. The event will be moderated by Antonio Carbone and Carolin Krahn.

Prof. Dr. Christian Lequesne is a political scientist and professor at Sciences Po - Paris School of International Affairs and at the College of Europe in Bruges. In his numerous studies, he has focused on European language policy and was the editor of a recently published report on linguistic diversity commissioned by the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. He coordinated a group of experts from nine European countries to draft this document.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Trabant is a linguist and Professor Emeritus of Romance Philology at the Free University of Berlin. In his extensive intellectual career, he has worked on a wide range of topics related to European languages and literatures.
