Kassel Marathon 2016

After training together in the spring and summer, a "Reli läuft" relay team again took part in the E.ON Kassel Marathon in September 2016. With a total time of 3:45:18h Tobias Klotzbücher, Johanna Kallies-Bothmann, Christina Günther and Marie Sophie Kitzinger achieved 26th place out of a total of 169 mixed relays as well as 4th place out of 11 teams in the MLP Uni Cup. The relay runners attracted special attention when they crossed the finish line together in the Auestadion with the yellow "Reli läuft" church. Once again, the focus was on sportsmanship and a sense of community! The next goal of the team is the night run Kassel 2017...

Trip to Luxembourg Marathon 2015

Trip to the Luxembourg Marathon 2015 (29-31.5.)As in previous years, in 2015 there is also an invitation to participate in a very special running event. In Luxembourg the big InterFaith run takes place every year, where representatives of many world religions run together for peace. The marathon course is divided into four sections and the relay teams are interfaith: Christians run with Muslims, Buddhists, Jews, Hinduists, Sikh or Bahai. In fraternal fellowship we experience a great weekend, get to know Luxembourg and celebrate an interfaith devotion ... and we run, each about 10 km. Overnight stay, meals as well as the extensive social program are free, the starting fee (approx. 25 Euro) as well as the journey have to be paid by the participants themselves.Information under www.interfaith.lu, there are many photos to seeBindingregistrations until 15.2. by mail to Prof. Freudenberger-Lötz

She makes students sweatForsix years, religious education professor Petra Freudenberger-Lötzhas beeninspiring her students to run. She teaches more than endurance in the process.

It is a rare sight that this February evening holds for visitors to the Lutheran Philippus Church in Rothenditmold: Green and pink splashes of color draw the eye to the floor. They are running shoes that form a circle. Pastor Dirk Stoll, Kassel's "marathon pastor," openedone of the bases where runners prepare for the Kassel Marathon in May. Among them is Dr. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz, Professor of Religious Education and Dean of Faculty 2.The passionate runner has gathered a few of her fellow runners around her. Just a moment ago, she was talking to Carolin Altmann. The 21-year-old student teacher is one of 25 in the "Reli läuft" group, Freudenberger-Lötz's running group. The attention of the "Reli runners" is now focused entirely on the new route of the Kassel Marathon.Next to the map that the projector throws onto the wall is the slogan "Run for your life".Petra Freudenberger-Lötz has internalized this motto. Ever since she joined the athletics club at her school in North Baden at the age of eleven, running has been her passion. In her youth, she stood on the podium as a hurdler at the German championships, later shifting her focus to longer distances. Among other things, she is the reigning German church champion in the half marathon. But she is not interested in trophies. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz runs for the sake of running: "It's a great feeling, I can hardly describe it," she says, thinks for a moment and then talks about the joy of the unconventional, about simply taking different paths for a change and how she retains gratitude, creativity and joie de vivre through running. "Running always allows me to find myself and come back to myself," says the mother of three.

"To infect others with running, I think that's great."

The woman in her mid-forties is convincing with every word, because you can see what she's talking about: "It's like a vacation for me, I'm so refreshed and fresh afterwards." It is precisely this energy that she would like to pass on: "To be able to infect others in such a way that they also have such an experience, I think that's just great. "As soon as she was called to Kassel, Freudenberger-Lötz founded the running group "Reli läuft" in 2008 to share her hobby with colleagues and students. They currently meet twice a week to run 10 to 20 weekly kilometers. The educator, who has become an internationally sought-after scholar with her model on theology for children and young people, makes time for things that are important to her. She gets involved in campus life and, with the running group, has found a way to meet students on a completely different level: "I believe that some also run because they value this community." She even offered a running seminar for theology students once during the summer two years ago. Of course, times and distances were not graded, but rather the "spiritual running" was about gaining new insights for oneself and one's life and reflecting on them.Carolin Altmann is participating in "Reli läuft" for the first time this year and wants to run the ten kilometers in the Kassel Marathon in May as a relay runner; the dean is pleased. "When I get students excited about a marathon, I often motivate them into uncharted territory. Afterwards, they realize: 'I've done something I wouldn't have thought I could do.' That can be transferred to other areas of life. That's why it's important to me to get people on board who haven't run before," the initiator emphasizes. It has become dark. The light from flashlights moves swayingly across the ground. Some runners briefly warm up. Then they set off. In the quiet of the night, they do their laps and start the new running season.

Kassel Marathon 2014

While the marathon, half marathon and relay participants of the "Reli-läuft" team arrived only gradually at the Auestadion, Friederike Ullmann was already at the starting line at 07:55, ready for the starting signal of the inliner half marathon. And shortly after the starting signal of the marathonis, 01:08:20h later, she was back at the finish line. A great time!

For the others, it was just getting started. At 8:30 a.m. the large half marathon field started. The "Reli-läuft" team was also represented by numerous runners, easily recognizable by the common white-red T-shirts. There followed 21.1 km through the whole of Kassel, which were excellently contested by all "Reli-läuft" participants. Here are names and times:

  • Christin Armbrecht: 01:59:30
  • Jonas Fickar: 01:55:02
  • Anna Medzech: 02:32:29
  • Karen Philipp: 02:30:24
  • Birgit Rohleder: 02:07:23
  • Elvira Rossol: 01:55:02
  • Teresa Rother: 02:00:29
  • Maximilian Salzwedel: 01:55:23
  • Elisabeth Wahl: 01:52:39
  • Marita Warnke: 02:02:46

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Elisabeth Wahl for her willingness to accompany a blind runner.

Due to an injury Petra Freudenberger-Lötz could not participate in the half marathon (as actually planned) - we wish a speedy recovery!!!As the only one of the team Michael Kotthaus even ran through the entire marathon with its 42, 195 km! In a fantastic time of 3:16:33h he ran after long ways through Kassel back into the Auestadion and crossed the finish line under big applause. Congratulations!

Eight runners of the team decided to rather split the long distance of the marathon and so finally two "Reli-runs" relays with four participants each entered the start. Both on the individual four (sunny!) parts of the marathon course and at the relay changeover points, the atmosphere was great! After 4:08:47h Eve Lotz, Carolin Altmann, Anna Lena Otte and Alena Herrmann crossed the finish line together; after 04:26:46h Henning Weigel, Kai Lotz, Till Möller and Christina Lohmeyer followed. Standing together in the finish area with the drinks, it was then solemnly decided to repeat the whole thing next year. And so this year's Kassel Marathon 2014 was again a great, joint event - the next time will come for sure!

InterFaith 2013 - Marathon in Luxembourg

InterFaith - Marathon for a united world

On June 8th, the 5th interfaith run of clergy and representatives of the world religions took place within the framework of the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg.

A few runners of the university running group "Reli läuft" were quickly enthusiastic about the idea and drove to Luxembourg full of anticipation. Everyone was curious to see how it would be to meet runners from other countries and especially with a different religious affiliation and to spend a sporty weekend together. The first encounter took place on Friday evening during the pasta party, which the organizing team of InterFaith made very inviting. Buddhist priests from Japan sat down at our table and quickly got into conversation with us. The Buddhist priest Naoyoki Ogi told us how he organizes his daily life and what his religion means to him. "Religion is a way of life," is his definition of religion. We were amazed at the cosmopolitanism and modern way of life he told us about and exemplified to us that evening. He and his colleagues were also interested in how Prof. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz trains students in Kassel to become religion teachers. Finally, an important item on the evening's program was to explain the Team Run and introduce the teams to each other. All marathon teams were interreligious and had to make arrangements. This aspect makes the special nature of this event clear: four people from different countries and religions strive for a common goal: to master the marathon together as a team. On Saturday, before the marathon, an interesting city tour took place, during which further contacts were formed. A highlight of the multi-religious exchange was the marathon prayer, which was held in the start and finish area of the marathon. Each religion had prepared a prayer for peace and at the latest when singing together it became clear that a good community had been established. This consisted of tolerance, respect and interest for the respective religions. After a small photo shoot, the marathon and half marathon runners and the first relay position went to the start at 7pm. Under big applause the big run began. Shortly after midnight all runners were at the finish line. Even though not everyone achieved their personal best, everyone was filled with the experiences and encounters. This became clear at the award ceremony the next morning. All runners were congratulated and basically they all won: because they participated in a marathon for a united world. And that is reason for joy.

The "Reli läuft" runners are enthusiastic about this meeting and maybe the run for world peace will continue in Japan in February. It would be nice ...

Spiritual Running Seminar and Kassel Marathon 2012

On Ascension Day 2012, "Reli läuft" had a special experience in preparation for the Kassel Marathon. In cooperation with the editor-in-chief of the major running magazine "Runner's World", Prof. Freudenberger-Lötz organized a seminar on Spiritual Running. The participants were introduced to the basics of Spiritual Running and experienced the special connection between running and faith, movement and theology. It was an intensive seminar, which gave many new impulses for the individual shaping of life and the further direction of studies. A follow-up seminar is planned for next year.

Statements from students:One student writes: "I quickly became aware that I feel a deep gratitude while running: for the rays of the sun gently shining through between the leaves of the trees, for a cool breeze on a hot day or for a beautiful sunset... In these moments I can relate to experiencing breathing not only with the body but also with the soul and feeling the body as a divine creation." And another participant sums up, "I would like to use the experience I have gained in my work with children and young people. It would be great if they could also relate to this and become sensitive to LIFE."

After a few weeks of experience with Spiritual Running, one student writes: "At the beginning I had to realize that I had to run much slower compared to other joggers in order to maintain my comfortable pace. I was confronted with my limits and, out of my ambition, I kept trying to go over them. The word that accompanied me during this phase of my running was "hung up." In the beginning, it had a negative-judgmental meaning. However, while running, I was able to realize how important it was for me to accept my slower pace: Running was more fun, I could concentrate better, I was more appreciative of my surroundings. So I started a later run with the verse "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." (2 Cor. 3:17b) Again, while jogging, I made the connection to permission or freedom to run slowly. Accepting my limitations also played an important role in other areas of life at that time. What do I sacrifice for a good result in an exam, a term paper? What can I change in relationships, what can I not? Theoretically, I knew that God is "mighty in the weak" (2 Cor. 12:9) and can work precisely at my limits or where I can no longer do anything. Nevertheless, I am very reluctant to confront my limitations. After running I felt liberated and relaxed. This feeling is a good perspective for dealing with my limits. "At the Kassel Marathon 2012, the conclusion of the running seminar, "Reli läuft" again received the award for the most active subject at the university. It was a lot of fun for everyone and strengthened the team spirit!

,,Reli-Läuft" at the Kassel Marathon 2011

With three relay teams, four half marathon runners and one inline skater, "Reli läuft" was at the start of the Kassel Marathon on May 22. It was a great event. At 7:30 a.m. the meeting point of our group was at the exhibition hall. One by one the starters went on the track. As the first competition the inliner half marathon was on the schedule for Rike Ullmann. At 8:00 a.m. she started on the approximately 21km long course. In 1:04:12 h she finished 5th in the W 20. A great result!

After 1:55:20 h Uwe Braun crossed the finish line as second in the Reli-läuft team, followed by Dr.Karsten Resch in 1:57:52h. Lea Sechtling managed a great time of 2:00,40h. With that, all three managed to finish in the range or under the 2-hour mark and they placed 39th (Uwe), 50th (Karsten) and 12th (Lea) in the Germany-wide university ranking. After the race it was time to cool down.

At 8:30 a.m., the half marathon runners took to the course. Prof. Dr. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz finished in 1:30,48h, 1st place in the W 45 and 2nd place in the ranking of the Open German University Championships.Congratulations!!!

The marathon relays started at 9 am. Four runners shared the marathon distance of 42.2 km. Kai Lotz immediately hands over the baton to the following runner. In the transition area the arriving runners 1 (Thomas Klinkauf, Kai Lotz and David Gennat) are welcomed by Eve Lotz.

All three relay teams ran a great race and finished after 4:01,45 h (David Gennat, Stefan Geyler, Sebastian Hamel, Johannes Busche), 4:41,12 (Kai Lotz, Anna-Franziska Pfundstein, Emil Schlichter, Jonathan Lötz)and 4:34,04 (Johanna Kallies, Thomas Klinkauf, Sjauke Bethien, Julian Seidler). In doing so, they finished 5th, 8th and 9th in the Uni Cup. The day ended with a pleasant get-together in the exhibition halls and the wish to start together in another competition this year.

Lollslauf in Bad Hersfeld

On 9.10.2011 some Reli-läuft runners were active at the Lollslauf in Bad Hersfeld. Some ran half marathon, others 10 km or the 10 km team run. It was a sunny and eventful day, which brought a nice mood for the new semester.

Kassel Marathon 2010

In the run-up to the Kassel Marathon 2010, we intensified our training. In the meantime, there were five participants in our running group who wanted to complete the half marathon. On 16.5.2010 we were actually at the start with three relays and five half marathon runners. Another relay team was formed in cooperation with the Open School Waldau. Four eighth graders thus joined our running group.

At "Uni in Bewegung" in June 2009, "Reli läuft" had come up with a special outfit and went to the start of the half marathon as the angel relay team. The prize for the best outfit belonged to us afterwards.

Prize for ,,Das Aktivste Fach an der Universität"

The next big running event was the Kassel Marathon in May 2009. The group had now grown, competing with four relay teams. To everyone's delight, we won the prize for the most active subject at the university. Especially important on this day was the good fellowship, which gave everyone a great experience.

Magdeburg Marathon 2009

A special community experience was the participation in the Magdeburg Marathon in October 2009. We stayed overnight in the Magdeburg Youth Hostel, received further training in religious education on Saturday and experienced a wonderful day of running on the Elbe on Sunday. The students and Mrs. Freudenberger-Lötz as well as their children were at the start of the mini marathon, the 13 km as well as the half marathon. We had brought the Kassel Marathon booth to Magdeburg and promoted the Kassel running event there.

"Reli läuft" receives MLP special award - 4th E.ON Mitte Kassel Marathon

(Michael Küppers)

The MLP Uni-Cup as part of the 4th E.ON Mitte Kassel Marathon gained further popularity this year. 177 students and university employees took part in the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay events, significantly more than last year. This means that the MLP Uni-Cup has established itself as an integral part of the marathon.17 students from Faculty 01, Religious Education Department, were now able to rejoice. The sponsor of the Uni-Cup, MLP, had offered a special prize of 250 euros for the most active department with the largest number of members. "Reli läuft" under the direction of Prof. Dr. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz was already very active in the run-up to the E.ON Mitte Kassel Marathon, for example taking part in the Magdeburg Marathon with a strong group. "The MLP Uni-Cup has developed very nicely," says a pleased University President Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep, "and Reli läuft has become a real showcase project." The university president can imagine that for the marathon, the competition among the disciplines will be strengthened even further. "We should try to find even more multipliers," says Prof. Dr. Postlep.MLP regional manager Marcel Everding is also pleased with the response of the MLP Uni Cup. "Our heart beats for the E.ON Mitte Kassel Marathon. It has become a link for the region and we are happy to be a part of its success. We will continue to offer the prize." In addition to the prize for the largest group and trophies for the winners in the individual competitions, MLP sponsored finisher T-shirts for all participants in the MLP Uni-Cup.Petra Freudenberger-Lötz ran in front in the half marathon herself. As ninth among the women and third in the age group W 40, the running enthusiast professor had her personal sense of achievement. The special prize for "Reli läuft" now rounds this off even more.

"Reli Läuft" at the Magdeburg Marathon

On the weekend of 23/24 October, the running group "Reli läuft" made an excursion to Magdeburg for the Magdeburg Marathon. The distances mini marathon (4.2 km), 13km, half marathon and marathon were available. Three runners participated in the mini marathon, four in the 13km distance, two in the half marathon and one in the marathon. All runners arrived safely at the finish line, and their times were impressive!

Above all, it was a great community experience.

Ingo Kärcher, who started his studies in Kassel in the winter semester and bravely joined the running group after only 5 days of studying, was able to make good contacts and clarify a number of questions about his studies. He wants to advertise among his fellow students and recruit more runners.

"Reli läuft" at the sports day "Uni in Bewegung" (University in motion)

In spring 2008, Prof. Dr. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz called for participation in the running group "Reli läuft". The first running event was the participation in the sports day of the university "Uni in Bewegung" in June 2008. "Reli läuft" started as a half marathon relay and had developed its own logo.

Runner of the month

Petra Freudenberger-Lötz (LG Kaufungen/"Reli läuft")

She is the fastest professor in the region and always runs with a lot of fun: Petra Freudenberger-Lötz. And she even keeps up easily with the men. In the North Hesse Cup, the runner in her mid-forties secured the overall ranking in the women's category and in the age group 45 early with her victory over 20 km in Heiligenrode. As overall fourth, the petite runner is surrounded by nothing but men in the statistics. That she is very fast, she has already proven in recent years and also the Kassel marathon fans know her. This year, Prof. Dr. Petra Freudenberger-Lötz was only beaten by the "professionals" Silke Optekamp, Katrin Kreil and Katrin Arndt in the women's race, finishing in an outstanding fourth place and winning the age group 45. She also came in second behind Katrin Arndt in the MLP University Cup standings. Many men can only dream of her 1:30:48 - see above. "Actually, I wanted to run under 1:30," she says, but with the heat on marathon day, it wasn't possible this time. Instead, the professor of religious education at the Institute for Protestant Theology at the University of Kassel made the hat trick perfect with "Reli läuft". For the third time, "Reli läuft" with its top woman secured the title as the most active faculty of the University of Kassel at the E.ON Mitte Kassel Marathon and received the MLP special prize for it. Several times a year, Petra Freudenberger-Lötz and her students and staff take part in running and marathon events in Germany. The jerseys specially donated by MLP now gave "Reli läuft" even more wings. University President Prof. Dr. Rolf-Dieter Postlep was once again impressed by this. In the North Hesse Cup, they can now take it easy - but even then, the men will have to hurry up...
