School internships as part of the teacher training program in French and Spanish

The content on this page was translated automatically.

As a student of French and Spanish, you will have the opportunity to apply and further develop your linguistic and didactic knowledge in school practice in two internships as part of your teacher training course. You will learn how foreign language learning processes can be specifically guided and how learners' communicative skills can be promoted. This is not just about teaching grammar and vocabulary, but also about implementing skills-oriented foreign language teaching. You will also learn how to use authentic materials and creative teaching methods. You will try out various methods to motivate learners to actively use the target language - for example through role-play, project work or digital media. Another focus is on reflecting on your own actions and developing a professional teaching attitude. This makes the internship an important bridge between theoretical foreign language didactics and real-life teaching practice.

1st school internship

SPS II (Practical School Studies II) - old MPO

Practical semester - new MPO 2023

Two internships are planned as part of the teacher training course. At the beginning of your studies, you will complete a first internship. This is SPS I (Schulpraktische Studien I) if you are studying according to the old MPO, or the so-called basic internship if you are studying according to the new MPO (from 2023).
Please note: This first internship is organized as part of the core studies - not by the Foreign Language Didactics Romance Studies department.

2nd school internship

The second school internship offers you the opportunity to gain an in-depth insight into practical work as a French and/or Spanish teacher. Over the course of a semester, you will continuously accompany at least one learning group and increasingly take on your own teaching responsibilities. You will be able to test and further develop the didactic and practical language skills you have acquired so far in lesson sequences that you plan and carry out yourself. Throughout the internship, you will be supported by a school mentor as well as university supervision. A teaching experiment, which will be visited by the university mentor in your assigned school, will allow you to gain initial experience in dealing with classroom visits and the subsequent debriefing of your teaching experiment - similar to what will happen later in your traineeship.

The focus of the second internship is on foreign language didactics: You will learn how authentic language use can be promoted in the classroom, how communicative skills can be specifically developed and how intercultural learning processes can be stimulated. In the accompanying university seminar, you will reflect on your practical experience in an academically sound manner and deepen your knowledge of didactic topics in foreign language teaching.

Registration

Registration for the SPS II or the practical semester takes place one semester before attending the seminar and the internship. The deadline usually ends at the beginning of the previous semester. Please check the registration deadlines in good time. Registration takes place via the SPS department.

Information on a possible internship abroad

The SPS II and the internship semester can also be completed abroad. Information about internships abroad is available from Faculty 02.
You can also get in touch with the contact person for international affairs at Faculty 02 to plan your internship.

Please note that before starting the internship abroad or during it (in this case digitally, if offered by the lecturer), the university accompanying course in French/Spanish language didactics must be completed. It is not possible for a work placement to be credited if the accompanying course is taken at a later date.
