CALAS-HIAS Research Fellowship Hamburg/Kassel 2027: Feminism, extractivism, culture and art under authoritarian tendencies: perspectives from Latin America

In cooperation with the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS), CALAS invites outstanding scholars from Latin America and the Caribbean to conduct research projects for a total duration of six months - four months in Hamburg and two months at the University of Kassel. This year's fellowship focuses on contemporary authoritarian backlashes in Latin America. As in other regions of the world, and against the backdrop of the rise of far-right, anti-democratic political forces, achievements in the areas of democratic pluralism, cultural diversity, aesthetics and art, gender equality and diversity, and environmental rights and norms are currently under threat in Latin America. These developments are particularly noticeable in the areas of gender, environment, culture and art.
