In the mood for sport

As part of INFORM - the Hessian action plan for more exercise, healthy eating and relaxation - the Institute for Sport and Sports Science was commissioned by the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Sport and the Hessian State Sports Association to select model locations in the city and district of Kassel for the "Bock auf Bewegung? model locations in the city and district of Kassel. The aim of the project is to introduce primary school pupils at selected schools to exercise activities offered by clubs in the region and to give them the opportunity to try them out free of charge.

The "Bock auf Sport" (Ready for Sport) day of action organized by the Hessen State Sports Association on 24.05.2012 was accompanied by a project team from the Institute of Sport and Sports Science under the direction of Dr. Andreas Albert. For more than 200 pupils in years two and three, the clubs in the town of Hofgeismar offered the opportunity to get to know their club activities in three time blocks. In addition to soccer, athletics, volleyball, handball, gymnastics, table tennis, badminton and yoga, the pupils also had the opportunity to put their skills to the test on a bicycle course in the cordoned-off parking lot in front of the district sports hall. During and between the exercise phases, the project team conducted short interviews with the participants. In the further course of the project, the action day is currently being evaluated and the sustainability of the measure will be evaluated in a few months' time.

The importance of exercise, healthy eating and relaxation was emphasized once again by Mr. Uwe Schmidt (District Administrator) and Mr. Lothar Räcke (Ministry of the Interior and Sport) in the joint final round.

The event concluded with a joint celebration with all participants in the district sports hall. Bernd Meyerholz and his Kunterbänd performed a small concert with a number of exercise songs for children, including the song "Bock auf Sport", which was produced especially for this day.
