Cross-country skiing excursion 2013, Oberhof

"You've barely arrived and off you go. First on the boards and then straight onto your lap!"

This was the motto for the first day of this year's cross-country skiing excursion to Oberhof. From 16.02 to 22.02. 2013, we sports students took to the trails of the Thuringian Forest.
Under the guidance of Sascha Creutzburg and Steffi Wernicke, who successfully taught us the classic and skating techniques as well as the braking, turning and transfer techniques, there was no shortage of fun. By using games and materials, we were able to gain some initial experience with the equipment before heading straight to the cross-country ski trail on the second day.
In addition to learning the techniques, we also gained experience in ski preparation. We first observed with curiosity before getting to grips with our own skis.
One of the highlights of the excursion was a visit to the DKB Ski Arena, also known as the Rennsteig Arena. After successfully completing the course, we could literally hear the cheers of the thousands of fans on the Birxsteig (the longest ascent of the entire course). Whether this was due to the joy or the impending circulatory collapse remains to be seen.
In addition to social evenings, we also had to study for university. To prepare for exams, video analysis was used to identify and improve mistakes. This was not only instructive, but also very amusing. You could literally see how the group improved from day to day. It was a pleasure for everyone to run the 20 km tours and still enjoy the nature and landscape. Although our feet ached in the evening, everyone was proud and happy to have completed the route.
