Topping-out ceremony at the Auehalle

Every day you can see how the new institute building in Damaschkestrasse is growing. Following the laying of the foundation stone on 4.5.12, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on 16.8.12. The college was delighted to welcome a wide range of personalities from the worlds of politics and science to the Auehalle. The Chancellor of the university, Dr. Robert Kuhn, opened the ceremony and emphasized that completely new opportunities for teaching and studying will arise. Eva Kühne-Hörmann, the Hessian Minister for Science and the Arts, also emphasized that "the new building for the Institute of Sport and Sports Science is another important building block in the expansion plans for the University of Kassel, in which the state of Hesse is investing almost 230 million euros by 2020 as part of its HEUREKA university construction programme". Professor Dr. Luise Hölscher, the State Secretary of Finance responsible for the construction, also said that this new institute building will enable an even greater concentration of research and teaching at one location. The mayor of Kassel, Jürgen Kaiser, is also delighted with the new building, not only as mayor but also as head of our city's sports department, and emphasized that the institute is an outstanding component of sport in Kassel.

The ceremony was rounded off with a traditional topping-out ceremony.
