Since May 2022, Shakir Ahmed works as a research associate at the Chair of Environmental Meteorology at the University of Kassel. He studied Geography at Government College University Lahore, Pakistan (BSc.) and the Istanbul University, Turkiye (MSc.), and earned a second master’s degree in Climate and Environmental Science at Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen, Germany. As a student assistant at Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) Leipzig, he gained experience in the field of statistical modelling and weather change detection using remote sensing and ground-based climate data analysis. As a geographer in FOCUS Pakistan (Aga Khan Agency for Habitat), he has gained practical experience working in the field of climate change and natural hazards in the mountainous communities of Northern Pakistan.

His research focus is on urban climate observation, data collection and analysis and he deals with the development of the Kassel Urban Climate Network (KUCON). Furthermore, he is interested in green cities and green infrastructures in his research and teaching courses at the University of Kassel.
