Position for scientific Employee
Research Employee (m/f/d), EG 13 TV-H, temporary, part-time (currently 30 hours per week)
Part-time with 75.00 percent of the regular working hours of a full-time employee. The position is initially limited until 31.03.2029 as part of the "Active2030+" project in accordance with the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG). The possibility of a doctorate is given.
Department:
The Department of Environmental Meteorology at the University of Kassel pursues the goal of deepening knowledge on climate-friendly development and design of cities and spaces through both basic and applied research in urban climatology and environmental meteorology. The interlinking of urban climatology and planning sciences plays an important role in this.
Project:
The "ACTIVE2030Plus" project, funded by the Federal Office of Logistics and Mobility, is dedicated to the challenge of promoting cycling and walking in times of climate change and reducing the restriction of mobility due to extreme weather conditions such as heat and heavy rainfall. It is being carried out by the "Environmental Meteorology" and "Cycling and Local Mobility" Departments of the University of Kassel and the City of Trier. The aim is to develop measures to promote these modes of transport under changing weather and climate conditions.
Flexible home office solutions are possible with the exception of field work in summer.
Tasks:
- Scientific collaboration in the Active2030+ project
- Recording the individual thermal stress of road users with wearables
- Analysis of selected routes using microclimatic measurements and modeling using the example of the city of Trier
- Comprehensive literature research on climate adaptation measures in cycling and walking and the thermal comfort of cyclists and pedestrians
- Independent, efficient and goal-oriented work
- Field work with test persons and measuring stations in the summer months in Trier
- Collaboration and coordination with project partners
- Preparation of interim results and findings for publications, presentations and reports to funding institutions
Requirements:
- At least a good to very good degree in urban planning, landscape planning, geography, ecology, meteorology, environmental sciences, geoinformatics or comparable courses of study. The required degree must be available by the recruitment date at the latest
- Willingness to spend several weeks in the field in Trier in the summer of 2026 and 2028
- Knowledge of urban climatology, geoinformation systems and programs (such as ArcGis), data evaluation
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills
An advantage:
- Knowledge of bioclimatology and thermal indices such as UTCI
- Experience with urban climate modeling or microclimate models
- Experience with meteorological measurements and analyzing usage data from wearables
- Knowledge of statistical programs such as R, Python
- Open and communicative, confident appearance, including when addressing test subjects
- Experience in project work and presentations
- First scientific publications
