Seminar: THE JOY OF READING - The Library as a Building Block of the City (Winter Semester 2012/13)

The LESELUST seminar is primarily designed to complement the project "AUSLAUFMODELL? A LIBRARY IN DOWNTOWN KASSEL," but is also open to other interested parties. The seminar aims to generate research in several stages and at various levels of depth: the cultural history of library architecture; the significance of public libraries as building blocks of the city; building typology and its functional requirements; new approaches; and technical possibilities in library administration. An in-depth examination of outstanding examples of library buildings and an analysis of their concepts, construction, and design will alternate with impromptu designs for individual spatial components and their sequences.
