Advanced Seminar: Preschool – Senior Center (Summer Semester 2015)

The software is followed by the hardware: while last winter semester’s research studio involved analyzing a wide variety of built examples and researching educational concepts for children and the elderly, the advanced seminar focuses on the application-oriented aspects of our architectural practice: legal requirements and safety considerations for buildings, interior and exterior spaces, spatial planning, and atmospheric conditions, materials, light, and color. An essential component of this is the aspect of spatial psychology. To this end, professionals in the fields of child care and elder care will be invited. We aim to sharpen our senses through practical experience and visit daycare centers for children and senior citizens on short excursions—as a supplement and deepening of our work on the project.

The advanced seminar builds on the findings of the research studio from the 2014–15 winter semester and is mandatory for all participants in the DR advanced project “JUNG X ALT.”
