How much vacant space is there in Kassel, what does it cost the public sector and what organizational, economic and legal levers are there?
In order to understand the effects of vacancy, we look at theoretical concepts in connection with concrete case studies in Kassel. What ways of thinking and acting in relation to vacancy can be traced historically? Which concepts can be applied for urban development oriented towards the common good and against profit interests? What specific recommendations for action can be derived regarding financing, ownership and operating models?
Using specific case studies in Kassel (including Sophienstraße, Rembrandtstraße, Henschel-Areal), we will examine the constellations of actors, legal foundations, bureaucratic processes and media reports.
The research studio is compulsory in conjunction with the Vertical Studio: LEERE STADT.

Wie viel Leerstand hat Kassel, was kostet er die öffentliche Hand und welche organisatorischen, ökonomischen und juristischen Stellschrauben gibt es?
Um die Wirkungsweisen von Leerstand zu verstehen, betrachten wir theoretische Konzeptionen in Zusammenhang mit konkreten Fallbeispielen in Kassel. Welche Denk- und Handlungsweisen in Bezug auf Leerstand lassen sich historisch nachzeichnen? Welche Konzepte lassen sich für eine gemeinwohlorientierte Stadtentwicklung und gegen Profitinteressen anwenden? Welche konkreten Handlungsempfehlungen zu Finanzierungs-, Eigentums-, und Betriebsmodellen lassen sich ableiten?
Entlang konkreter Fallbeispiele in Kassel (u.a. Sophienstraße, Rembrandtstraße, Henschel-Areal) untersuchen wir Akteurskonstellationen, rechtliche Grundlagen, bürokratische Vorgänge und Medienberichte.
Das Recherche-Studio ist in Kopplung mit dem Vertical Studio: Leere Stadt verpflichtend.
