Center Planning History of City & Landscape

With a networking meeting on July 7, 2017, the University of Kassel, Faculty of Architecture Urban Planning Landscape Planning (ASL) launched the "Center for Planning History of City & Landscape" (ZSL) was founded.

The CenterPlanning History of City & Landscapesees itself as an (international) platform for planning history research combining the disciplines of urban planning and open space/landscape planning and at the same time as a bridge-builder between research and teaching in planning theory. It also aims to generate third-party funding for research in the field of tension between the upheavals and changes of the 20th century and to promote young researchers. The focus is on the history of future theories, methods and paradigms for planning cities and landscapes. This is embedded in the history of the disciplines of urban, landscape and spatial planning. In addition to the generally enlightening understanding of historical research, planning history is also understood as a contribution to the history-based discourse on the future of spatial planning and its transdisciplinary, transformative orientation.

All of these topics are also reflected - with a time lag and spatially differentiated (e.g. in East and West Germany) - in the concepts and content of university teaching on urban and landscape planning. This project on the history of education will be the first work component of the Zentrum Planungsgeschichte zu Stadt & Landschaft. The aim is to prepare acooperative research project proposal with an international perspective (DFG or similar).
