The crowdfunding platform of the University of Kassel operated by "Uni Kassel Transfer" was conceptualized, piloted and evaluated by the Department of Information Systems (Prof.
Dr. Leimeister) in the
framework of a research project in 2014 and has been scientifically accompanied by the Department of
Information Systems since then. To date, the UNIKAT crowdfunding platform
counts 8891 supporters, 84 projects and almost 1 million euros in crowd funding. "This is an
extremely successful record and sets standards," says Prof. Dr. Leimeister. At the time,
University of Kassel was the first German university to run its own crowdfunding initiative.
Today, other universities are taking this example of success as a model to run their own
crowdfunding initiatives.

Department of Information Systems, who is the project leader for the development at that time and the
ongoing, scientific monitoring of the platform, reports, among other things, on the
