U-hoch-3: Carefree urban travel
Making public transport more attractive will significantly improve the quality of life in urban areas. Two thirds of journeys made in cities are for leisure activities, shopping and other private purposes. This often involves carrying purchases or luggage, which can be inconvenient on public transport. In addition, one cannot be sure whether seats are available and whether the desired connections will be reached when changing trains.
The U-hoch-3 research project is therefore designing an assistance system that supports users along their travel chain as required. In addition to intermodal journey planning, it offers an innovative inner-city delivery service that covers the entire supply chain with baggage drop-off, transport and delivery. Together with inner-city transport service providers, it is being evaluated how the occupancy status of public transport can be recorded and made available in real time so that people can react flexibly to this in their travel planning in future. In addition, a concept for ensuring connections is being developed, implemented and trialled. The aim is to enable customers to signal their connection request so that transport service providers can ensure the connection and provide reliable information.
The Chair for Public Law, IT Law and Environmental Law at the University of Kassel is responsible for dealing with selected legal issues relating to the project. In particular, the scenarios created in the project are analysed with regard to data protection requirements.
The project is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ludger Schmidt (Chair for Human-Machine Systems Engineering). Other project partners are the Chair for Transportation Planning and Traffic Systems at the University of Kassel, INIT Innovative Informatikanwendungen in Transport-, Verkehrs- und Leitsystemen GmbH (Karlsruhe), IVU Traffic Technologies AG (Berlin) and, as application partners, Kasseler Verkehrs-Gesellschaft AG and Verkehrsverbund und Fördergesellschaft Nordhessen mbH.
